I'm shooting this short on Monday, and I haven't directed in ages, so I hope the old magic is still there.
The idea is a simple one: to explore the rythmn of the city, and more specifically how the city's rythmn is determined by the traffic lights.
The essential action will be a man waiting for the traffic to stop in order to cross a busy street, such as Mare Street in Hackney. We start off with the movement and violence of busy traffic until the lights change, then we have the peace and solitude of the pedestrian crossing a main road. In our tale, the cars are stuck at the lights but they're chomping at the bit to be let loose and run the pedestrian over. I don't have an ending yet, and perhaps there isn't one, perhaps the final action of the film is another pedestrian arriving and waiting for the traffic to stop, it is an unending process.
I intend to shoot the film very simply.
